Christmas crafts with the Brownies using Recycled Materials.

My mom’s friend is a Girl Guide Brownie leader. The troop, the Arbutus Unit in Summer Hill North very kindly asked me to come along to their hall and assist them in gaining their Recycling  Merit Badge.  I gave a demonstration on making some simple Christmas decorations using all recycled materials.  We used items such as cans, toilet roll tubes, old books, cartons, paper shopping bags, old giftwrap and old Christmas cards.  I also had some ribbons which I had saved from chocolate boxes and embellishments which were ‘preloved’. As we didn’t have a lot of time I premade kits for the girls with various items they required for making the crafts. We made novelty Christmas holders, trees, gift boxes, Christmas tags, seed packets and a gingerbread house.  The girls were great, very enthusiastic and all fabulous crafters.  I really enjoyed my time with them and was delighted to help them get their merit badge. They were all so good I just had to give them a little Christmas treat which of course included jellybeans!!!

Should anyone be interested in joining the Brownies, you can contact the Resource Centre for your nearest Guide unit on 021-4500414.
